SSAVEIM Foundations™
School Safety and Violent Event Incident Management

Free online course aligns school staff and first responders for an active shooter attack.

Lockdown is one step, not a plan. SSAVEIM Foundations™ explains how an active shooter or violent attack at a school unfolds, and how the response works: lockdown, response, and reunification. Built for everyone who works in a school and every agency that would respond, taken on their own time, before they ever need it, with no substitutes, no backfill, and no overtime.

Free Under 1 hour total On demand, self-paced 13 modules, most are 4 minutes Certificate for 1 hour of credit

Follows the Standard Response Protocol and Standard Reunification Method from the “I Love U Guys” Foundation.

How to earn your certificate

1
Sign in. Create a free account with your work email, then take the short Pre-Test. It is diagnostic, so your score does not affect passing.
2
Learn. Each module has a video and a Post-Test.
3
Get your certificate. Finish all 13 modules and score an 80% average or better across their Post-Tests, and your certificate is emailed to you automatically.

About 75 percent of people who sign up on their own finish the course and earn their certificate.

Where This Fits

Knowing what happens is not the same as having done it. Foundations carries the SSAVEIM lecture to everyone in under an hour, so everyone starts from the same place. SSAVEIM Train-the-Trainer is where your people actually practice it together, and because everyone completes Foundations beforehand, day one is the class itself, scenarios included, and day two is teaching it.

SSAVEIM Train-the-Trainer™

Two days, 16 hours, up to 30 trainer candidates: ideally 10 law enforcement, 10 fire and EMS, and 10 school staff. Because Foundations already covers the lecture, day one runs the class and its scenarios with your trainers as students, and day two has them teach it. Those exercises run on Counterstrike Terrain™ digital map tables, loaded with aerial imagery and floor plans of your own campuses. Your own people leave certified to keep teaching it. Tell us about your school district or agency and we will walk you through how it fits your schools and your responders.

  • Free SSAVEIM Foundations completed beforehand, so day one starts with the class, not the lecture
  • Practice lockdown and violent-event reunification together, not just learn about them
  • Get school and responder teams onto one shared plan while there is still time to fix it
  • Certify your own trainers so your district keeps the program running after we leave
  • NCIER brings Counterstrike Terrain™ digital map tables for the exercises; buy your own only if you want one for local training

What you get out of it

One course for school staff and responders.

A violent attack at a school is not a school problem or a police problem. It is one problem, worked by school staff, law enforcement, fire and EMS, 911 dispatch, public information, and emergency management. Foundations is free and open to all of them. Here is what it gives you.

If you work in a school

  • See how public safety will actually respond, long before the day you watch it happen.
  • Know why a locked door is the most powerful thing you own, and how fast it has to happen.
  • Understand the hours of waiting after the shooting stops, and why they are normal.
  • Learn that you are not in command alone, and why a school leader still belongs at the table.
  • See what violent-event reunification takes, from opening the site to returning the last student to the right parent.

Teachers, office and front desk staff, principals and administrators, safety directors, training officers, bus drivers, support staff, school resource officers, district leadership, and board members.

If you would respond to one

  • See the whole timeline, not just the first thirty minutes you train hardest for.
  • See what violent-event reunification involves, and where public safety fits into it.
  • Know why the school administrator, with the keys, maps, and cameras, belongs at your command post.
  • Understand that your authority is real and not exclusive, and how Unified Command holds it together.
  • Work next to school staff who already know what you are doing and why.

Law enforcement, fire and EMS, 911 dispatchers, public information officers, emergency managers, and the mutual aid partners who would respond.

Emergency managers belong in this too. Not just the district emergency manager, but the community emergency manager as well. They are the ones who will be asked for support on the day, and the ones who can tell your schools and responders what they can provide.

Questions

Common questions

Yes. There is no cost to your school or your agency. The whole course is free, and so is district tracking.
Everyone who would be there on the day. On the school side that is teachers, office and front desk staff, principals and administrators, safety directors, training officers, bus drivers, support staff, school resource officers, and district leadership. On the response side it is law enforcement, fire and EMS, 911 dispatchers, public information officers, and emergency managers. It is free and open to all of them.
Under an hour in total. It is 13 short video modules you take on demand, so staff can finish it between classes and responders can finish it between calls. You can stop after any module and pick up where you left off, with no substitute teacher, no overtime, and no training day. About 75 percent of people who sign up on their own finish the course and earn their certificate.
No. SSAVEIM Foundations follows SRP and SRM from the “I Love U Guys” Foundation and works alongside the protocols your schools already use. It adds the shared picture of how the full response unfolds around those protocols, from lockdown through reunification.
Not to watch. All 13 modules play without an account. You will need a free account for the Pre-Test, the Post-Tests, and your certificate, and signing in is what lets your district see your completion and send reminders.
It gives a clear, honest understanding of how an active shooter or violent attack at a school unfolds, and how the response works. That includes lockdown, the public safety response, and violent-event reunification.
It does not train you to manage a violent attack on a school by hand, and it does not build trainers. The in-person SSAVEIM course does both. Foundations gets everyone to the same clear starting point first.
Yes. A training officer can see who has finished and who has not, for free. Registration tracks completion and sends reminders, so chasing it down is not a manual job. That is how awareness becomes real across a whole district, not just a few people. To enroll your schools or agencies as a group and get tracking set up, email info@c3pathways.com.
Foundations is free awareness that gets everyone to the same understanding. The in-person SSAVEIM course is where school staff and responders practice lockdown and reunification together in the same room, on one shared plan.

Which part(s) of the course was MOST valuable to you. Please explain why.

The sections covering real-world application and foundations were the most valuable. It provided a clear frame work that connects theoretcal concepts directly to day-today operations. Also the structural break-down on the fundamentals was excellent. I simplified complex topics and made the material highly digestible and actionable.

Which part(s) of the course was LEAST valuable to you? Please explain why.

Every section added value to the overall learning objective.

Please provide any other comments or suggestions you have for improving this course.

The course is great. To make it even better, adding some more interactive elements, downloadable reference guides or quick case studies would enhance knowledge retention.

What other training is most important to you now that you have completed this course?

Training that focuses on integrating these foundations and recertification classes every couple of years to update the new laws or actions.

Which part(s) of the course was MOST valuable to you. Please explain why.

I took ASIM Advanced about two years ago. This helped reiterate the content in that program. I took this to see if it was an appropriate base level education for our EMS staff. It is! The total overview is the important part to me. We will diver deeper into ASIM later with the Quickstart, but the info for how/why other parts of the response operate is important to me, and I want my staff to understand that.

Which part(s) of the course was LEAST valuable to you? Please explain why.

Honestly, none. This was put together incredibly well.

Please provide any other comments or suggestions you have for improving this course.

None.
