Which part(s) of the course was MOST valuable to you. Please explain why.

The most valuable part of the course was the section on Command and Unified Command. Understanding the importance of establishing an initial Incident Commander from law enforcement and then transitioning into a Unified Command structure as the incident evolves was especially impactful. This process promotes early coordination between agencies, saves valuable time, improves operational effectiveness, and ultimately increases the potential to save lives.

This course is outstanding, and I completed it as a refresher after attending the PER-353 course. For those who understand the material and how to apply it operationally, the content is highly effective. One suggestion for improvement is to acknowledge that some elements are not necessarily one-size-fits-all. It is important for participating agencies to clearly understand the core principles for responding to an active shooter event while also ensuring alignment in communication, terminology, and expectations. Emphasizing the need for agencies to adapt these principles to fit their specific operational platforms would further enhance the course’s practical application.

What other training is most important to you now that you have completed this course?

Now that I have completed this course, the most important additional training would focus on how to effectively prepare and educate schools, hospitals, churches, and similar facilities on what to expect and how to respond if they are faced with an active shooter situation. Providing guidance on pre-incident planning, expectations, and appropriate actions for these organizations would greatly enhance overall community preparedness and response.
