The exercises were very helpful in putting the information into practice. As this was a smaller group, it was more difficult than expected for it to move smoothly.

The medical portion of the classroom section on day 1 was way too quick and taught by LE which made it a bit confusing. I'd recommend ensuring Fire/EMS people are teaching that portion. (You wouldn't have a paramedic teaching about IEDs, so don't have LE teaching about medical care.) I also think that there needed to be more variety for the roles, switching up who played what roles.

I'd also recommend a greater focus on explaining each of the stations and why they exist.

What other training is most important to you now that you have completed this course?

I'd be interested in more PIO specific work. The handout was helpful but there is more to the PIO role than 1 briefing. (Ex: sending out Alerts, social media posts, wrangling reporters, etc...).

The practical exercises because it helped me better comprehend the concepts we were learning about in the classroom setting. The learning "sticks" more after doing it.

As a PIO who has had real-life experience with active shooter incidents, the PIO component of the exercises were too elementary; however, I gather the primary purpose of the PIO component was to assure that Command understands their role in press conferences and how to utilize the PIO. For this, the exercises served their purpose.

No suggestions; this was a fantastic class!.

Deeper dive into hosting press conferences and handling more complicated situations involving the media, elected officials, et al.

The scenarios. It was also informative when the instructors were going over a past, real-life incident but used Madison locations instead. It made things really hit home.

As a PIO, there was some standing around. But we were encouraged to go learn about different areas.

I think the PIO segment could be updated a bit more. Social media plays such a large role in out jobs these days. You should have your PIO have to put something out online first, before the press briefing. Or have them assign someone in their JIC to do a series of posts.

What other training is most important to you now that you have completed this course?

I think more trainings could be done in the tactical/triage/transport area. This one seemed the hardest for first responders to feel confident in as I observed.
