I found the sections on Unified Command, communication during a lockdown, and student reunification to be the most valuable. As a school administrator, I understand the importance of having a plan, but this course helped me better understand how school leadership and emergency responders must work together during a crisis. The accountability and reunification processes were especially helpful because our responsibility to students and families continues long after the immediate threat has ended.

Which part(s) of the course was LEAST valuable to you? Please explain why.

I felt that all of the information was relevant. Some of the basic lockdown procedures were familiar because of my experience in school administration, but I appreciated the opportunity to review them. Even when information is familiar, it is important to reinforce procedures that could potentially save lives.

I thought the course was informative and well organized. One suggestion would be to include more practical examples specifically for smaller schools that may not have a school resource officer or a large administrative team. It would also be helpful to provide a downloadable checklist that school administrators could use to evaluate their current emergency response and reunification plans.

What other training is most important to you now that you have completed this course?

I would be interested in additional training on developing and practicing school emergency response plans, particularly student reunification, communication with parents, and coordination with local law enforcement and emergency services. I would also like more training on conducting realistic tabletop exercises with school leadership teams so we can identify weaknesses in our plans before an actual emergency occurs.
