SSAVEIM Train-the-Trainer™
School Safety and Violent Event Incident Management

Train Schools and Responders as One Team in 2 Days

Most school incidents break down because schools and responders train separately. SSAVEIM™ Train-the-Trainer is a two‑day course that certifies your own local trainers to deliver a unified violent event incident and reunification playbook for school staff, law enforcement, fire/EMS, and emergency management.

15–20 minutes · No obligation
In partnership with The “I Love U Guys” Foundation
Integrates SRP/SRM with NIMS + ASIM Checklist™ for school incidents
In-Person Classroom + Exercises
2 Days 16 Hours
Up to 9 Trainer Candidates
40 Participants
Why SSAVEIM

One Team. One Incident Plan. Trained and Ready.

The goal is simple — decrease the time to neutralize the threat, get injured to a hospital, and reunite students with their families. SSAVEIM brings school leaders, law enforcement, fire/EMS, and emergency management into the same room, on the same plan.

Unify Everyone

Train school staff, law enforcement, fire/EMS, and emergency management together on a single, integrated school incident playbook, including reunification.

Train Locally

Your trainers keep the materials, checklists, reunification kit, and LMS access so you can refresh training on your schedule.

Train With Confidence

Shared training, clear roles, and course certificates help schools and responders show they’ve trained together on the same plan.

Schools and first responders can’t afford to meet for the first time during a crisis.
The Course

Build One Joint Team and One Shared Incident Playbook

A 16-hour course for 9 trainer candidates — 3 law enforcement, 3 fire/EMS, 3 school staff. Over two days, your trainers learn the curriculum, prove they can deliver it, and leave ready to repeat training annually.

1

Day 1: Your Trainers Learn the Curriculum

Your trainers learn the curriculum, exercises, and system.

2

Day 2: They Run an 8-Hour Course for Up to 40 Participants

They run an 8-hour course for up to 40 participants to prove they can deliver it.

The Experience

What Happens in the Room

This course provides you with the experience and confidence to respond to a violent event, regardless of your daily responsibilities. Participants are trained to secure the students, identify the threat, provide medical intervention, and reunify students with their loved ones.

Participants using the Counterstrike reunification board during a SSAVEIM exercise

School Staff and Responders Train Side by Side

School personnel work alongside law enforcement, fire/EMS, dispatch, PIO, and emergency management — so your team meets and trains together before a crisis, not during one.

Hands-on Exercises with Counterstrike™

Full-scale exercises utilize Counterstrike™, a tangible tabletop tool which provides a bird’s eye view to the incident, generating a greater understanding of the process.

Role Rotations Build Understanding

Participants rotate through different roles and assignments so everyone understands the full range of violent events and responses.

No-Fault, No-Embarrassment Coaching

Instructors utilize a no-fault, no-embarrassment coaching style, providing hands-on experience for entry level and executives alike.

After the Course

What Your Trainers Keep

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between SSAVEIM and SSAVEIM Train-the-Trainer?
SSAVEIM Train-the-Trainer is the 2-day / 16-hour format. Day 1 prepares up to 9 trainer candidates. On Day 2, those trainer candidates help deliver the 1-day / 8-hour SSAVEIM course to participants so they can demonstrate the material and become certified to deliver SSAVEIM locally.
Who should we select as SSAVEIM trainer candidates?
Select 3 law enforcement, 3 fire/EMS, and 3 school staff who already have a role in training, school safety, or emergency planning. They should be comfortable leading groups and working with mixed audiences.
How does SSAVEIM relate to the “I Love U Guys” Foundation?
We partner with The “I Love U Guys” Foundation to combine their research-based best practices — created by school administrators, psychologists, public space safety experts and families — with our decades of first-hand experience as first responders. Together, we’ve created a life-saving curriculum to provide a hands-on training approach to School Safety and Violent Event Incident Management.
Will SSAVEIM work alongside our existing SRP/SRM or district safety plan?
Yes. SSAVEIM is built in partnership with The “I Love U Guys” Foundation and integrates their Standard Response Protocol (SRP) and Standard Reunification Method (SRM) directly into the curriculum alongside NIMS and the ASIM Checklist™. It complements and strengthens your existing plans rather than replacing them.
Is this appropriate for all school staff?
Absolutely. The course is designed for all school staff, from administrators to support staff, alongside emergency responders. Instructors use a no-fault, no-embarrassment coaching style so every participant builds confidence regardless of their background or experience level.
How long do trainers stay certified? Are there ongoing fees?
Once certified, your trainers receive a 3-year SSAVEIM Train-the-Trainer certificate. During that period, they can deliver SSAVEIM locally as often as needed with no per-delivery fee from NCIER. They keep the full curriculum, checklists, and LMS access to run the course on your schedule.
What do trainers keep after the course?
Your trainers keep the curriculum, ASIM Checklists, reunification tools, LMS access, and their certificate so you can repeat training locally on your schedule.
How many people can attend a SSAVEIM Train-the-Trainer delivery?
Day 2 accommodates up to 40 mixed-discipline participants, with up to 9 identified as trainer candidates who will deliver SSAVEIM locally going forward.
What does the host need to provide?
Hosts provide a suitable training space, basic AV, and participants from school(s) and local responder agencies. NCIER brings the SSAVEIM curriculum, Counterstrike™ Reunification tools, instructor team, and supporting materials.
