Travis has spent over 30 years with the JSO moving up through the ranks. He started in the Patrol Division and served in the Narcotics Tactical/Undercover Unit, Burglary Unit, Community Affairs Division and Negotiator Team. He supervised a patrol squad and task force, then the Field Training and Emergency Preparedness Units. Promoted to lieutenant, he served as a Patrol Watch Commander, and Unit Commander of the Field Training and Emergency Preparedness Units, leading all-hazards planning, hurricane and special event preparedness, and multi-agency exercises. He was appointed Police Assistant Chief of the Violence Reduction Section, then Academy Training Director, overseeing recruit and in-service training, curriculum, and accreditation. He served as Unit Commander over the Field Training Officer Program and Gun Range and the Crisis Negotiation Unit and currently commands the Crisis Negotiation Unit.
