I recognize the virtual nature of exercises, but it still seems like the first arriving units should have to diagnose the need for incident command and subsequently assign staging areas. As a relatively new paramedic this is my great anxiety concerning mass casualty incidents-- who makes the initial decisions and how is this communicated to arriving units of varying disciplines?.

The simulation/avatars were difficult to operate.

It would be helpful to make sure that everyone got to experience managing these incidents at the command level. Many participants were repeated and some didn't get to participate past TTT and staging.

More MCI/Disaster training.

Both the lectures and the practical.

The banquet hall facility was good but we should have been closer to the screen. The "staging area" and the "scene area" during the practical should have been maybe 10-15 feet closer.

Included considers for differences between rural versus metropolitan such as helicopters, blocking roads, having fire set up lz and perimeters of the entire cold zone. It isn't primary to stopping the killing and stopping the dying but it is secondary, it is a good use of resources, it helps to stop the dying. Protecting the scene is important in all situations. Directing parents and loved ones is important. Establishing a reunification point and public information point is almost never discussed let alone included in scenarios. It is almost always an after thought.
