Which part(s) of the course was MOST valuable to you. Please explain why.

The hands on scenarios helped to solidify concepts learned. It was very helpful to see how law enforcement and medical should be working together during these incidents. The checklist is also a great guide.

Which part(s) of the course was LEAST valuable to you? Please explain why.

I felt that all aspects of the course were beneficial.

Please provide any other comments or suggestions you have for improving this course.

I felt the course content was valuable and an emphasis on the checklist was very important to organizing a chaotic scene like an active shooter incident would become. As with any course of this nature, strong personalities and current supervisors are going to be present. I feel that putting a greater emphasis on dropping egos is important. Ego tends to hinder responses like this and I was able to see that first hand during the group exercises when higher ranking individuals did not feel that they were in a role suited to their rank. Emphasizing that you go where you're needed not where you want may not be well received but some people may need to hear it. While attempting to implement this at my own department, it is frequently brought up that the FD should have more of a leadership role. I felt the video did a good job of explaining why it is important for PD to have incident command initially, I would love to see that discussion happen during the in person portion of the class as well.

I think the course is great, I would post a list of the area hospitals in the book or on a sheet in the tactical sim box. We all know our local facility names by heart, not central city's. The venue for this training was a pain to access/park at, but that is on MDEM for choosing this.

What other training is most important to you now that you have completed this course?

Any advanced active assailant class, or a larger class on area command operations.
