Johnnie Britt started her career as a Patrol Officer with the Chapel Hill Police Department in January 2003. For more than 23 years, Johnnie has served in various roles in the police department, including eight years as a criminal investigator and supervisor over the unit. She was promoted to the rank of Captain in May 2021 and currently oversees the Training Division.
Johnnie has served as a speaker at multiple conferences, sharing information on the co-responder model in law enforcement. She has guest lectured on the United States criminal justice system at De Montfort University in Leicester, England and on recruiting and retention at the North Carolina Police Executives Association annual conference.
Johnnie received her Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training & Standards Division. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from East Carolina University, where she attended as a recipient of the North Carolina Police Corps Scholarship. Johnnie is also a graduate of the Administrative Officers Management Program at North Carolina State University.

Johnnie began her career as a police officer performing a variety of law enforcement duties, such as responding to calls for service, enforcing traffic and criminal laws, and conducting high-visibility patrols. In 2006 she started working as a Police Investigator, investigating and documenting criminal cases. Then she became a Police Sergeant supervising a patrol shift, providing direction, oversight, and critical decision-making to ensure safety and compliance with the law. By 2016, she served as a Police Lieutenant overseeing patrol shifts, Community Services, and School Resource Officers. Johnnie coordinated community events, engagement opportunities, trainings, and active assailant safety presentations. She currently serves as a Police Captain overseeing the Department's Training Division by leading the development, delivery, and evaluation of departmental training programs, ensuring compliance with state standards, enhancing officer preparedness, and supporting organizational goals through strategic planning, staff development, and effective communication.
