Sometimes communications fail – not just radios. In scenarios like active shooter events, getting information out and keeping the mission on track is critical. In today’s episode, we explore strategies to navigate radio transmission obstacles, such as assigning runners, managing transmission overload, enforcing radio discipline, leveraging technology, utilizing simplex frequencies or cell phones, integrating repeaters, and more. Preparation is key – train for potential failures, make a plan in advance and find innovative solutions to technological challenges. Our communications failures can be cured if we come up with a plan before we need it.
